Julie Faith Parker, Ph.D.

Visiting Scholar at Union Theological Seminary; Biblical Scholar in Residence at Marble Collegiate

Dr. Julie Faith Parker is a distinguished scholar in Hebrew Bible studies, recognized for her innovative approaches to biblical interpretation. She holds a Ph.D. in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible from Yale University, awarded with distinction, and also earned degrees from Yale Divinity School (S.T.M.), Union Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Hamilton College (B.A.; Phi Beta Kappa).

An ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Parker has a rich background in ministry, having served as a congregational pastor and university chaplain before pursuing advanced academic studies. Her research interests encompass feminist biblical interpretation, childist biblical interpretation—a field she pioneered—and ancient Near Eastern languages and cultures.

Dr. Parker has taught at several esteemed institutions, including Yale Divinity School, General Theological Seminary, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Colby College, and New York Theological Seminary, where she taught incarcerated students at Sing Sing prison. She is currently a Visiting Scholar at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and serves as the Biblical Scholar in Residence at Marble Collegiate Church in Manhattan.

She has authored or edited eight books and numerous articles. Her most recent work, Eve Isn’t Evil: Feminist Readings of the Bible to Upend Our Assumptions, is set to be published in September 2025. Dr. Parker’s contributions to biblical scholarship, particularly her development of childist biblical interpretation, have made a significant impact on the field, offering fresh perspectives on the role of children in biblical texts.
