This new opportunity invites students, researchers, practitioners, clergy, and other interested individuals to apply for designation as a two-year Scholar of the Center.
Scholars are invited to engage deeply with the Berryman Archives and Special Collection, exploring materials that support reflection and research into the nurturing of children’s spiritual lives. Participants are encouraged to develop projects that may grow into a thesis, academic article, or even a book-length work. Completed academic articles will be eligible for publication in the Journal of Childhood and Religion, an open-access, peer-reviewed journal managed by the Center.
Selected Scholars will receive a $1000 stipend to use for travel to VTS and other related expenses from the Center for the Theology of Childhood. Scholars can stay on the VTS campus for up to three weeks and will receive free meals during their stay, whenever the Refectory is open. In addition, the Director or Assistant Director of the Center will be available to consult with Scholars on their projects, offering guidance, conversation, and scholarly support throughout the project. Scholars of the Center will also be expected to meet online at least three times with other Scholars of the Center to share ideas and explore potential collaborations. We will seek to establish meeting times that reflect the group’s needs and rhythms.
Projects are expected to be completed within two years of acceptance into the program.
